It was cloudy.

It was so cold that I took out a fan heater from the closet.

As soon as I turned on the heater, my children gatherd around.

"It's too hot. Turn off the heater." my husband said.

He is a person who is extremely sensitive to heat.

In contrast with him, I'm sensitive to cold.

I want a floor heating.

I set a humidifier on the table to humidify the room.

寒いので暖房を入れました。
でも、まだファンヒーターのみ。

コタツはまだ出しません。ぎりぎりまで我慢。
だって、出してしまうと、みんなコタツに入って動かなくなるんだもん。
床暖房が欲しいなぁ・・・

加湿器は、humidifierなんですね。

「加湿するために加湿器を設置した」なんて、なんか変な文章～。

Knitting / 編み物

It is getting colder in the night and morning.

I'm knitting for the first time in ten years.

Actually I'm not good at knitting.

But sometimes in winter season I feel like knitting.

It is a pink muffler for my daughter.

I'm sure she will like it.

すごく久しぶりに編み物などしています。
暇なわけではないのだけど・・・
いや、むしろやらなけばいけないことがたくさんなのだけど・・（汗）
現実逃避？？
いろいろな問題で行き詰って考えるのに疲れちゃった～なんてときは、気分転換に編み物っていいですよ。
私の場合は、とりあえずココアでもいれて、好きな音楽でも聴きながら、編み物に没頭します。
マフラーって、ただひたすら同じ作業をコツコツ続ければ完成するし、網目を数える必要がなくても編めるのがうれしいです。家族とおしゃべりしながらでも編めるしね。

今日のBGM：　「大杉正明のWhat's New Toeday?」、　「The Beatles」

このマフラーを作ってます。ネットで編み図が見られたりするのは便利ですね。

My son's birthday / 次男の誕生日

It was sunny and warm.

Today was my second son's birthday.

We had a party in my family this evening.

I baked a chocolate cake.

He liked it very much.

I well remember his birth ten years ago.

I had almost miscarriaged him three times, but he was born and doing well.

He grew up healthily.

He is a tall, kind, baseball-loving, and good-natured boy.

I'm proud of him.

三度の切迫流産を乗り越えて生まれた次男も、もう１０歳。
生まれたときは３人の子の中で一番小さかったのに、今は兄の背を追い抜きそうな勢い。
今日は、息子の好きなチョコレートケーキを作ってお祝いしました。

Christmas Present / クリスマスプレゼント

It was sunny today.

I recieved a paperbadk and a mp3 player which I orderd through the Internet.

The paperback is for me, "Differnt Seasons" by Stephen King .

And the mp3 player is for my husband. I'm going to give him for a Chiristmas Present.

I hope he will like it.

Amazonで注文したペーパーバックとMP3プレイヤーが届きました。
ペーパーバックは自分用で、S.キングの「Different Seasons」
キングの作品は初めて読むのですが、おもしろいと評判なので楽しみです。
今まで英語の本は、絵本や児童文学など子供向けしか読んだことがないので、大人向け作品を読むのも初めてです。短編集だけど、なんと508ページもあるんですよね。
とりあえず、映画化された「ショーシャンクの空に」の原作から読んでみようかなと思います。

それから、もうひとつ注文して届いたのが、夫へのクリスマスプレゼントのMP3プレイヤー。
去年彼から結婚17年目にして初めてクリスマスプレゼントをもらってうれしかったので、今年は私が驚かしちゃうおうと思っています。（笑）

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire / 炎のゴブレット見てきました

It was sunny.

Last Saturday I went out with my son.

We saw the new Harry Potter movie, "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire."

I really enjoyed the movie. It was exciting, but somewhat rushed.

I understnad the need to keep the movie time short, but I think an extra half hour was needed.

土曜日に息子とハリーポッター炎のゴブレットを見てきました。
期待通り映像はすばらしかった！でも、何かとても急いで早送りで見ているようでした。
終わってみると、あれっ、もう終わり？って感じで、2時間半があっという間でした。

映画を見終わった後、息子が言いました。「賞金は？」「パーシーは？」「リタ・スキーターの変身は？」
それからは二人でランチを食べながら、話はつきませんでした。

前作の「アズカバンの囚人」のときは、ストーリーがわかりにくかったと感じたのですが、今回は前作よりわかりやすかったと思います。ハリー・ポッターの世界をあれだけ映像で表現したのはとても素晴らしいと思います。おもしろくなかったわけではないのですが、あと30分あれば、もっとよかったのになというのが正直な気持ちです。

新キャラではチョウ・チャンに注目していました。最初予告でみたときはちょっとイメージ違うなー、と思ったのですが、映画で見たら、最初見たときよりかわいく見えたので、私的には合格。次回に期待です。でもシリウスの出番が少なかったのが不満。次の５作目は、出演するキャラも多いし内容も盛りだくさんなので、さらに期待しています。特にシリウスとハリーの絆をじっくり描いて欲しいです。

My dream in my childhood / ケーキ屋さんになりたかった

It was sunny but cold. It's getting colder and colder day by day.

In my childhood I wanted to have a pastry shop when I grow up.

Because I loved pastry.

I was happy when I was eating delicious pastry, and thinking of them.

Even now I love pastry and to make them by myself as well.

I'm thinking of learning how to make delicious pastry and bread.

I want to take a correspondence course.

I asked for a enrollment information of confectionery school.

子どもの頃、ケーキ屋さんに憧れていました。
そういう女の子って多いと思いますが…
今だったら、パテシエというところでしょうか？
おいしいお菓子を食べたり、お菓子のことを考えているときって、幸せなんですよね。

この頃は、おいしいパン屋さんも増えて、パン作りにも興味が出てきました。
図書館でお菓子やパンの本を借りて、いろいろ作っています。

Baking bread / パン作り

It was sunny and warm.

I baked bread twice today.

First, I baked a roaf of bread with a bread-maker for breakfast.

Second, I baked some bread in the afternoon.

My daughter helped me.

She likes making bread dough by hand.

We tried to make "kitty-chan bread" but we failed.

The bread did not rise enough and it was baked too much.

村上祥子さんの「親子で楽しむ手作りパン」を見ながら、キティちゃんのパンを作ってみた。

このレシピではパンをこねなくてもいいのだけど、娘がどうしてもこねたがるので、こねさせた。
しかも、２倍の大きさになるまで発酵させなくてはいけないのに、娘が「早く焼こう！」とせかすので、「ま、いいか～」と発酵不十分のまま焼いてしまった。しかも焼きすぎ。
でも、味はそれほど悪くなかった。

よく育児書なんかに「お手伝いをしたがる子には簡単なできることからやらせましょう」みたいなアドバイスが書いてあるけど、現実にはそううまくはいかない。
親がやらせたいことと子どもがやりたいことが違うときがあるのだ。
私も簡単なところだけ娘にやらせようとしたが、彼女はもうそれだけじゃ満足できないみたい。
私がレシピの手順通り作ろうとしているのに、勝手に自分のやりたいようにやろうとする。
私の言うことなんて聞きやしない。

これは実際に子どもと一緒に料理をしてみればわかると思うけど、子どもによっても違うし、こうすればうまくいくということはなかなか言えないのだ。
うちの３人の子の中では、兄達に比べると末っ子の娘が一番頑固だ。

よく主婦の雑誌なんかに、若いお母さんと小さな女の子が仲良く料理している写真なんかが載っている。
私も子供を持つ前は、そんな光景に憧れたりしたものだ。
だけど、子どもを持ってみて、あんなの嘘っぱち！って思った。
現実にはいつも和気あいあいと子どもとお料理している家庭なんてそんなにないんじゃないかな。

小学校低学年ぐらいになれば可能だろうけど、３、４歳くらいの幼児と一緒に料理するのは大変だ。
散らかす、こぼす、ひっくり返す、手順は完璧無視で自分のやりたい欲望のまま突き進む…本人は意欲満々だけど、効率的に作ろうとする親は疲れてしまう。

私は疲れるのが嫌で上の子２人のときはあまりお手伝いをさせなかった。
３人目にしてようやく悟りを開いたというか…細かいことを気にしなくなったというか…

でも、子どもと一緒に料理をするのは、私の気持ちに余裕があるときだけです。

日々のご飯作りでは、だいたい忙しくて早く作らなくっちゃと効率優先なので、できれば一人でちゃっちゃと作ってしまいたい。
台所でトントン野菜を刻んでいると娘がすっとんできて「やりたい！」と言うが、「少しだけね」と言って包丁を一緒に持ってあげて、ちょんっと切ったら「はい。向こうで遊んでいてね」と追い払ってしまう。

そんな感じで、かなりズボラで気分屋な母です。
でもそんなもんだよね。・・・って誰に同意を求めてるんだ？

It was sunny.

I was depressed this morning.

I went to the library for a change.

Reading books was good for me.

I found reading picture books very calming.

I wanted to borrow "Guri and Gura's suprise visiter" but it was checked out.

I borrowed "Winnie-the-Pooh's PICNIC COOKBOOK"(Japanese virsion)

On the way home, I stopped by a bakery and bought some bread .

I ate the bread for lunch.

It was good.

So I was recoverd a little.

「ぐりとぐら」シリーズが好き。
お料理することと食べることが好きな、ぐりとぐら。
何も考えず、のんびり眺めているだけで癒されます。

「ぐりとぐらのおきゃくさま」の英語版「Guri and Gura's Surprise Visitor」を借りたかったけど、貸出中。
クリスマスの時期に読みたい本です。

代わりに借りたのが、これ。

ピクニックに行きたくなりますな。

一応料理本なんですが…
私は料理本はたいてい眺めるだけで、作らない人。
眺めているだけでハッピーなんです。

「クマのプーさんティータイムブック」も気になってます。
きっとおいしいティータイムのお菓子が載っているに違いない。
また図書館で探してみよ。

I had a drinking party with mothers of my son's basball teammate at an izakaya, or Japanese style pub.

It was so fun. We were thoroughly relaxed and chatting.

My husband always says me that we mothers like chatting so much rather than drinking.

It was sunny.

I took some time off from work because my daughter was sick.

She had a fever this morning.

While she was sleeping, I cleaned my house.

There were a lot of used books.

I wanted to clean them up.

Then I thought I would sell them and applyed some books on Amazon market place.

不要な本を何冊かアマゾンのマーケットプレイスに出品した。
英語の参考書は結構売れるのよね。本にもよるけど・・・
手数料が15％でちょっと高いけど、家にいても１冊から出品できるのは助かる。

It was sunny.

My husband bought this at the Internet auction.
It is a part of motorbike.

"How much was it?" I asked him.

"Only 15 thousand yen.
This would cost more than 60 thousand yen if you buy a new one at a store," he said proudly.

But I couldn't help laughing at this.

"It looks funny. It is like Masked Rider's bike called the Cyclone or the Hurricane or something.
Don't you think so?" I said.

I don't think it's cool.

ダンナがオークションで買ったバイクのカウルですが。
なんだか仮面ライダーのバイクみたい、と思ってしまった。

The Shukan ST / 週刊ST

It was sunny.

When I was cleaning the room, I found a pile of newspapers, Shukan ST.

I used to subscribe to it, but I didn't read much.

The Shukan ST was too difficult to me in those days.

I want to improve my English.

I wish I could read the news and understand completely.

I wonder if I will subscribe to it again.

定期購読していた週刊ST。
あまり読まなかったのよね。。

あとで読もうっとか思っていても、結局読まない。
貧乏性だから、もったいなくて捨てられない。

なぜ捨てられないのかなぁ。
日本語の新聞だったら読まなくても捨てちゃうのに。

やっぱり英語学習のためと思ってお金を使ったから
読んでないと損した気分になってしまうのよね･･･

この新聞、今日から１号ずつ持ち歩いて読もう。
期限を決めて読まなかったら捨てることにしよう。

It was sunny, beautiful warm day!

My son Kazu belongs to a boy's baseball team.

Today the team had two games.

How amazing!

They won both two games in a row and went through to the last four!

They did a great job! I'm really proud of them.

Kazu hit a ball two times and he stole a base.

I saw he stole a base for the first time. He's not a fast runner.

When he was running, I shouted loudly, "Run! Run fast!"

I was so excited to watch the game.

My daughter was coughing when she got up this morning.

She seemed to have a cold, so I made her take a rest from the nursery school.

I was relieved that her ill was not so serious and she is well now.

We visit Nikko to enjoy beautiful sight of various colors of leaves every year in autumn.

Today my family except me drove to Nikko.

What a pity! I was sick and I couldn't go with them.

私以外の家族は毎年恒例の紅葉狩りのため日光へ。
体調が悪かったので行けなくて悔しい。

ハリポタ６巻読了 / I finished Harry Potter vol.6

It was cloudy.

( I wrote about the story of Harry Potter vol.6 in the following passage. Don't read if you don't want know the story.)
以下、少しネタばれありなので、その部分だけ隠しています。文字を反転すると読めます。

I finally finished 'Harry Potter' vol.6.
It was a very long, 607 pages book.

I was shocked when I read the part where he died.
I couldn't believe and I thought he would come back from the dead.
But he didn't come back till the end of the book.

The story continues next book.
When will vol.7 be published?
I can't wait!

I was joinning the mailing list for reading Harry Potter in English.
Thanks to the mailing list, I could finish and enjoy reading the book.
I'd like to say thank you to all the members of the mailing list.

６巻読了しました！

５巻読むのに1年くらいかかった私が、６巻を２ヶ月で。
途中１ヶ月半くらい休んでいたので、実質たぶん２週間くらいだと思うんだけど。
前半はちびちび読んでいたけど、後半300ページは４日で読んだ。私にしては、ハイペース。
いちいち日本語に訳している暇はなく、頭の中にイメージしながら読んだ。たぶん半分くらいしか理解していないと思う。それでも先を知りたくて、どんどん読みすすめた。
気がついたら、最後のページだった。
えー。ここで終わり？続きは７巻？うー…

「ハリーポッターvol.1～6を英語で読み通す」メーリングリストのおかげで楽しく最後まで読み通せました。

It's sunny and muggy.

I's hot and humid every day!
I'm suffering from the summer heat.
The sultry weather drains my energy.

I received some boiled eels from my mother three days ago.
Many Japanese people eat nutritious unagi, or Japanese eel on the day of the ox in midsummer.
They believe they gain strength to survive the hot summer from unagi.
To tell the truth, I don't like unagi so much.
I want to have a rest rather than work hard in the hot day.

It was sunny today.
There was an stong earthquake in Kanto area.

I have TOEIC test tomorrow.
So I made sure what to take.
An admission ticket, a watch, some pencils, erasers, and...
What else do I need?
Oh, I need a photograph to stick on an admission ticket.

明日はいよいよ１年ぶりのTOEIC。
ここのところ、英語の勉強らしいことはしていないのだけど…２時間もの英語漬けに耐えられるのだろうか？
好きな本なら英語でも時間を忘れて読みふけるのにね。

さて、持ち物も点検したし、あとできることは十分な睡眠をとり体調を整えて試験に臨むこと。
明日TOEICを受けるみなさん、リラックスして頑張りましょうね！

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Audio CD)

It was cloudy today.

I enjoy reading Harry Potter these days.
I read it every day, but I haven't finish it yet because it is a very long story.
I read it listening the audio CD.
It is so interesting. I sometimes stay up late.
And I almost foget to write my diary.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince （オーディオCD）

ハリー・ポッター６巻のＣＤも購入。でも本はＵＫ（イギリス）版だけど、ＣＤはＵＳ（アメリカ）版。
ＵＳ版の方が、値段がずっと安かったから。（さすがに５千円も差があるとねぇ…）
ＵＫ版を読みながら、ＵＳ版を聞くのってどうなのかなぁと思ったけど、今のところ、違和感なく楽しんでいる。
ＣＤは注文したときは、ちょっと高いかなぁと思ったけど、実際に届いてみると、カバーのイラストは素敵だし、朗読の内容も満足できるもので、これで19時間分の朗読が繰り返し楽しめるなら…と納得。

というわけで、今は８章を読書中。
１章読み終えるごとにblogに感想を書くつもりだったけど、今は早く先が読みたいので、感想はあとでまとめて書こうと思う。

waiting time at hospitals / 病院での待ち時間

It was sunny and windy.

I went to see a doctor this morning.
As usual there were many people in the hospital, so I had to wait a long time for my turn to be examined.
I read Harry Potter in a waiting room until my name was called.
After all I was in the hospital all morning. And I was busy all afternoon because I had a job to do by evening.
I wonder if it could reduce waiting time at hospitals.

英語日記、１００日まであと７日

英語日記を書いた日数を数えてみたら、９３日。
１００日まであと７日だ。
いつのまにか、そんなに書いてたの？と自分でびっくり。
こんなに続くなんて思ってなかった。

「英作文の練習のために毎日書くぞー！」と思ってはじめたが、今はもっと気楽に自分の思ったことや日々の出来事を書きとめておけば、あとで見たときに、思い出に残るかもしれない…という気持ちで書いている。

英検準１級の英作文は４点→１０点に上がったし（満点は１４点）、少しは英語力もアップしているのかも？
（英作文以外の点数は進歩なかったけど…）

たぶん文法とか、めちゃくちゃなのかもしれない。でも日本語だって正しく書けているかどうかというと自信がない。英語だけ完全でなければ、と神経質に身構えるのも変だ。とりあえず、日記なので、あとで自分で見たときに何を書きたかったかわかればいいかなと思っている。

毎日書いているわけではない。書きたいときだけ書くから、１ヶ月以上も書かないこともある。
それでもやめなければ、いつか思うことを自由に書けるようになるかな？
そんなふうに、これからも、気楽に細く長く、続けていければいいなと思う。

summer community festival / 夏祭り

It was cloudy today.

There was a community festival two days in a row.
Yesterday my husband and children went to the festival.
And today my second son went to the festival with his friend and father.
When he come back home from the festival, I asked him, "Did you enjoy it?"
But he said "No" and there were tears in his eyes.
I was suprised to see his tears and asked him,
"What's happened? Did anyone hurt you?"
"No. I drew the lottery, and I spent all my money."
"You spent all your money?"
For heaven's sake!
I couldn't help laughing at him.
I thought he should not to do any gamble and lottery, or he would lose all his money.

お祭りから帰った次男。目に涙を浮かべてたので、いったい何事かと心配したら…くじ引きで有り金使い果たしたと言う。はぁ～拍子抜け。泣くなら初めからくじ引きなんかするなよ、と言いながらつい笑ってしまった。（ごめん）

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince / ハリー・ポッター６巻を読み始める

It was sunny today.

I recieved "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince", the latest the Harry Potter series.
I placed my order through the Internet a month ago, and I was looking forward to arriving it.
I have just finished chapter one.
I'm going to read one chapter a day.
It is a long story, so I'm going to read one chapter a day and finish this book in about 30 days.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Harry Potter 6) (UK) [Adult edition]

注文していたハリー・ポッター６巻が届いた。
US版の方が安いのだけど、せっかく英語で読むなら原書にしようとＵＫ版にした。
カバーはAdult edition。かっこいい。
５巻ほどは分厚くない。それでも607ページ！
何日、いや何ヶ月かかるかな？
とりあえず、１章を読んだところ。
この調子で１日１章なら30日で読めるはずだが…

第１章　The Other Minister
ハリーはまだ出てこない。ハリー登場は３章からのようだ。
ファッジに替わって魔法省大臣になったのは・・・？
ダンブルドア？と思ったら、・・・Rufus Scrimgeourという人。（たぶん新しい登場人物だと思う）
ファッジよりも頭がきれて有能な人という印象を受けたけど、どうなるのかなぁ。
ファッジの話の中で、シリウスが出てきたときはうれしかった。
「シリウスは無実」とファッジが言ってた。あれ、ファッジはシリウスの無実については知らなかったはずでは？ダンブルドアがファッジに話したのかな。

２章を少し読んだところ。ある姉妹がスネイプ先生をたずねる。その二人とは…そしてスネイプの側にいた意外な人物とは…

Shiretoko / 知床が世界遺産に

It was cloudy today.

I heard the news that the northern Shiretoko area was registered as a World Natural Heritage site.
In fact, my family are going to visit Shiretoko for summer vacation, so I was happy to hear the news.
Speaking of Shiretoko, you know what that brings to mind?
When I hear Shiretoko, it makes me think of some marine animals such as sea lions and whales. And don't forget ryu-hyo, or drifting ice floes.
I hope we will enjoy the beautiful nature in Shiretoko, we can't see ryu-hyo in summer, though.

知床が世界遺産に認定されたとか。
夏休みに家族で知床に行くことになっているので、うれしいニュース。
世界遺産になると、観光客が増えて自然が荒らされるという懸念を持つ人もいるようだけど、知床の自然環境に関心を持つ人が増えて自然を守ろうという意識が広まればいいなと思う。という私も、知床に行くのは初めてで、よく知らないのだけど。
夏だから流氷は見られないけど、美しい自然が見られるといいな。楽しみ。

It was cloudy and cool today.

I recieved an admission ticket for TOEIC.
The examination site is so far.
It takes 50 minutes by train and it's a 15 minute-walk form the station.
I have to leave home early.

TOEICの受験票が届いた。
今回は試験場が遠いなぁ。
今まではいつも電車で１駅のところだったのに。

kalanchoe / カランコエは、頭の良くなる花？

It was rainy.

My second son sent me a potted kalanchoe with his letter yesterday.
The letter says that "Happy Birthday, mom. Thank you for cooking meals and doing the laundry every day. I hope you are always well."

On a potted kalanchoe, I found a tag that says "smart flower".
What is "smart flower"?
I don't know how kalanchoe makes us smart.
When we see beautiful flowers, we feel relaxed and refreshed, and as a result, we might get a clear head.
I guess that's why kalanchoe is "smart flower".

It was cloudy.

Today was my birthday.
My husband gives me a bunch of sunflowers on my birthday every year.
This year he gave me two bunch of flowers, one was sunflower and the other was rose.
He said, "I was a little embarrassing when I asked a shopwoman to wrap the flowers for my darling wife. Do you know the floral language of red rose?　 It's passionate love."
I was really happy to have a nice present.

tanabata / 七夕

It was fine this morning.
I saw three turtles in the river near my house.
They were sunbathing on the rock.
They didn't move at all and they seemed to be taking a nap.
I was impressed by the turtles which really did "kouraboshi."

Today was tanabata, or the star festival.
This is a bamboo stick decorated by my daughter.
On tanabata we write our wishes on slips of colorful paper, and hang them on a bamboo stick.
My daughter's wish was "I want some toys!"

朝、近くの川で亀が３頭日光浴をしているのを見た。亀って本当に甲羅干しするんだ！と感心した（笑）
ずっと雨だったからね。気持ちよさそうだった。

娘が保育所で作った七夕飾り。
彼女（３歳）の願いごとは、「おもちゃが、ほしい！」

plan for summer vacation / 夏休みの計画

It was rainy.

My family are planning to go on a trip to Hokkaido during summer vacation.
We are going to take trains from Saitama to Sapporo, and drive to the eastern of Hokkaido by rented car.
My husband and I have visited Hokkaido before. We were moved when we saw beautiful scenery in the vast extent land, such as lakes, mountains, meadows, and so on.
I want to show my children beautiful nature that they didn't see before.
We are thinking of camping because we can't afford to pay for a hotel.
Camping in the great outdoors is wonderful, if the weather is fine.
I'm also looking forward to a variety of delicious foods.
It will be a lot of fun!
I'm sure we'll have a great vacation.

My First Love / 浜田省吾さんのニューアルバム

It was cloudy.

I listened to Shogo Hamada's CD.
It is his latest album, "My First Love", and I got it today.
It is like a collection of short stories. Every songs tells a story.
I shared the feelings with the characters.
He says "I'm not a good singer" but I love his voice.
I think he is a great songwriter.

I'm going to go to his concert at Saitama Super Arena in December.
I can't wait!

浜田省吾さんのニューアルバム「My First Love」
７月６日が発売日なんだけど、待ち切れなくて前日店に行ったらもう店頭に並んでいたので、即ゲット。

一通り聴いて、まず印象に残った曲が「Thank you」と「花火」
「Thank you」はタイトルから予想していたのは、明るくハッピーな曲だったのだけど、いきなり出だしから深刻な内容でびっくり。「今も君がこの世界に生きていることにThank you」だなんて、う～ん…胸にズシリとくるなぁ。サウンドは「ローリングストーンズみたいでかっこいい」と夫。
「花火」は「I am a father」との対比で聴くと、まさに光と影。「I am a father」は、家族のために一生懸命頑張るお父さんを歌っているけど、「花火」は家族を捨てたお父さん…たぶん頑張りすぎて疲れたのかな？それでも子供の写真を大切に持っていたりして忘れられないというのが、せつない。「すぐに帰るつもりで車を車庫から出してアクセル踏み込んだ…」という歌詞がやけにリアルに感じる。あまり頑張りすぎると、うちのパパもこんなふうにいなくなっちゃうかも・・・なんて考えてしまった。

とりあえず、今のお気に入りは「初恋」「光と影の季節」「この夜に乾杯！」「君と歩いた道」かな。
今は明るめの曲を聴いて元気になりたい気分なので・・・（「君と歩いた道」はしんみり系だけど）
「初恋」はビートルズなどの洋楽のタイトルや曲のフレーズが入っていたりして楽しい。浜田さんの曲も入ってる。「J.BOY」とか「America」とか？
「光と影の季節」「この夜に乾杯！」を聴いていたら、コンサートでみんなで歌って盛りあがる光景が目に浮かんだ。あー、早くツアーが始まらないかな！
「君と歩いた道」はアルバム・バージョン。コンサートでは、こっちをやるのかなぁ？

It was rainy in the morning.

My husband and I ate out for lunch at the restaurant yesterday.
We sat opposite each other.
When I was staring at his face in fascination, he asked.
"What are you thinking about? You look happy."
I was a little suprised to hear that.
"Did I look happy?" "Yes. You smiled."
Actually I was thinking about him, but I didn't say that.
Somehow I felt like happy as I was looking at him.

It was hot as hell!

I went to the doctor and heard the result of the medical checkup.
The doctor told me I had a stomach ulcer and duodenal ulcer.
So I got some madicine.
And she said that the cancer wasn't found in my stomach and large intestine.
I was relieved to hear that.
On my doctor's advice, I will take an examination of a myoma of the uterus next week.

病院に検査結果を聞きにいった。とりあえず癌じゃなくてほっとした。

当分病院通いが続きそうだけど、長い待ち時間は読書や英語のリスニングをして、時間がつぶせそうだ。この英語日記は病院の帰りにマックに寄ってコーヒー飲みながら書いた。病気の名前は知らない単語ばかりなので、辞書を引きまくりだった。あまり覚えたくない単語だけどなぁ。使う機会は結構あるかも。

Boy's Heart / 少年の心

It was awfully hot!

"Boy's Heart" is one of my favorite songs.
I tried to sing and play the song with ukulele, but I couldn't.
It was difficult to play for me.

My husband said that "J.BOY" is easy to play.
So I played "J.BOY."
It was easier than "Boy's Heart."

昨日の日記、ちょっと恥ずかしかったかなぁ。
知り合いも見てるかもしれないってこと忘れてた（汗）

浜田省吾さんの「少年の心」をウクレレで弾いてみようと思い楽譜を見たら、コードが15個もあってギブアップ。
夫が「J.BOYの方が簡単だよ。コード５つ覚えれば弾けるから」と教えてくれたので、とりあえずJ.BOYを先に練習することにした。これなら、なんとか弾けるかも？

My husband asked me what I want as a birthday present.

"Don't say you want love." he said.
"I was just about to say so that." I said.
"But I always give you my love. Don't you think so?"
"Well...I think so."

What do I want?
I'll make a wish list.

誕生日に何が欲しい？と夫に聞かれた。
考えていると、「愛とか言うなよ」だって。
う･･･先に言われてしまったか。

欲しいものリストを作ってみようかな。

うーん、やっぱり愛かなぁ。
気持ちが一番うれしいのよね。

「２人きりの時間＆星の指輪を私のためにギター弾き語りで歌ってくれる」なんてね（笑）

It was sunny.

My daughter has been having a high fever since yesterday.
She was in bed and looked bad last night.
I made her stay home from nursery school today.
And I took time off from work to take care of her.
Although she's still having a high fever, she looks better and has an appetite.
Now I'm a bit under the weather, so I think I'd better go to bed early tonight.
I have to get up early tomorrow morning. My son will leave home at 7:30 in the morning, so have to remember to prepare lunch box.

娘が高熱を出して、保育園を休む。
熱はまだ高いけど、昨日に比べると今日は元気だ。
今度は私の方がちょっと具合が悪いので、ラジオ講座を聞いたら、寝よう。
明日は朝から次男の野球があるし、お弁当作らなきゃ。

It was rainy today.

I made up my mind to take TOEIC next month.
So I applied for TOEIC through the Internet in this morning.
The deadline for TOEIC application was today's noon. I barely made it in time.
When I took TOEIC about a year ago, my score was 570.
I hope I will improve my score.

あー、ついに申し込んじゃったよ、７月のTOEIC。

１年ぶりの受験。この１年あまり勉強してないので、前回と同じくらいか下がっているかも。現実を知るのは怖い気がするけど、年に１回くらいは現状を把握しようと思ってたし。

暑い時期だから体力が持つかどうか心配。まずは体調を整えることが第一かな。
あとは集中力を鍛えないと・・・（どうやって？）

今度こそ最後まで全部解答したい！

lavender and iris / ラベンダーとアヤメ

My husband took me for a picnic for a change.
We went to nearby town to see the Lavender and Iris Festival.
There were many lavender and iris flowers in the field. We enjoyed a beautiful scenery and took some pictures.
It was sunny and warm. As we found an ice-cleam stand, we got ice-cream cone of lavender flavor. It was good.
We had rice balls and barley tea for lunch under the tree.
There was a nice, gentle breeze blowing.
It was a lovely day for a picnic. I felt refreshed.

夫が、気分転換にピクニックに行こうと誘ってくれた。
近くの町でラベンダーとアヤメ祭りをやっていたので、お花を見ながら、おにぎりと麦茶という簡単なランチだが、おいしかった。ラベンダー・アイスクリームも食べられて満足。

最近、療養中の私のために、夫が気を遣ってくれる。感謝。

It was sunny today.

I went to the amusement place in my neighborhood with my family after dinner.
We played table tennis.
I played a game. I lost to my husband by 1 point. It was a close game. I almost won. It was just a game, but we got serious. I want to win next time.
I belonged to a table tennis club when I was a junior high school student.

家族で卓球。子供達には手加減するが、夫相手だと、ついむきになってしまう。試合をしたら、1点差で負けた。悔しい。中学では卓球部だったのになぁ。

It was rainy today.

I got up earlier than usual to prepare lunch boxes for my sons.
They had a bus trip with their friends and mothers.
I'm not good at cooking, but I like reading cookbooks.
I borrowed a cookbook, "Harumi's Japanese Cooking", from the library.
Harumi Kurihara is a popular cookery writer among Japanese housewives.
This book shows me simple and delicious Japanes recipes.
I can learn not only recipes but also how to make a presentation and enjoyment of Japanese food.
I tried spahettini with fish roe dressing. It was so good.

息子達が子ども会のバス旅行なので、久々のお弁当作り。
得意の厚焼き卵とおにぎりはバッチリでしたが、あとは冷凍の唐揚やエビフライなどをチーンと…（汗）
彼らが保育園の頃は、結構お弁当に凝っていて、卵焼きをポケモンの形にしたりしてたんですけどね。味に自信ないので見た目で勝負（笑）

写真は、栗原はるみさんの栗原はるみのジャパニーズ・クッキング（Harumi's Japanese Cookingの日本語版）を見て作った明太子スパゲッティ（spahettini with fish roe dressin）です。
この本は人気の本らしく、1ヶ月くらい待ってやっと借りられました。これの英語版を購入しようかなと検討中です。ハードカバーで立派な本なのでちょっと高いかなぁという気もしますが。ペーパーバック版があるといいんだけどなぁ。
レシピはシンプルでわかりやすく、盛り付けや器などもきれいなので、見ているだけで楽しい本です。一人暮らしを始める人や新婚さんなどへの贈り物などによさそうですね。
英語版なら、英語も料理も覚えられるし一石二鳥？それとも二兎を追うもの一兎を得ず？

栗原はるみさんは、「日本で人気のある料理研究家」と英語で書こうとして、料理研究家って英語で何？と調べてみたけどわからなくて。でも、アマゾンのレビューに次のように書いてあるのを見て、なるほどと思いました。

そっか、cookery writerか。栗原さんはたくさんの料理本を出してますものね。
レビューを英語で読むと、海外でも彼女の本が高く評価されていることがわかりました。もとは家庭の主婦がここまでできるんだなぁと夢と希望を与えてもらった気がします。

the beginning of the rainy season / 梅雨入り

It was rainy today.
The start of the rainy season was announced for the Kanto area.
I don't like the rainy season.
I have to hang up the laundry in my house and it won't dry because of the humidity.
However, my little daughter likes to go out in the rain.
She likes to walk with rain boots and raincoat.
She likes to play in the puddle. I don't want to get her clothes wet, but she doesn't care.

関東地方が梅雨入り。じめじめして嫌だよ～。
でも３歳の娘は雨でも嬉しそう。
レインコートと雨靴を着るのが楽しいみたい。
水たまり（puddle)で遊ぶのも大好きです。

clean up / 掃除

I was busy. So I didn't clean my house often.
But I can't stand any more.
It's dirty and mess everywhere.
I don't know where to start. What should I do first?
There are a lot of disused articles.
I want to get rid of them.

I made up my mind to clean up my house today.
The first place I cleaned was a closet in the dining room.
I put a lot of disused clothes in garbage bags.
The closet got cleaner.
I'm going to clean the kitchen next time.

あまりに家が汚いので、さすがにズボラな私も我慢の限界。

It was cloudy today.

I went to the shop to get Shogo Hamada's new CD today.
The CD included two songs, "I am a father" and "You are the one"
I liked them very much.
I was especially touched by the following words in the song "You are the one".

　Even if I could return to the summer I was 15
　Even if I could do it all again
　Even if I could choose this life again
　I would choose to walk this road again with you.

I want to ask my husband this question.
"If you could return to the winter you was 20
If you could choose your life again
What kind of life would you choose to live?"

I wonder what will he answer?
I'm happy if he will answer like this
"I would choose to walk this road again with you."

今日は浜田省吾さんのニューシングルI am a fatherを買って来て聴きました。
I am a fatherはPVで何度も見たので、今回はカップリング曲の「君と歩いた道」がどんな曲だろう？と気になっていました。I am a fatherがノリよいのロックなのに対して、こちらは静かなバラード。なんともせつなくて美しいメロディーです。
個人的には歌詞の内容にすごく共感するところがあって、一つ一つの言葉が胸に響きました。というより胸が痛いくらいです。10代、20代の頃のことを思い出して。と同時に、当時の激しい苦悩や心の傷も、数年の時を経て思い出や傷跡になっていることに気づきました。時が解決してくれるという言葉は本当ですね。この歌詞に共感できるのは、30代40代くらいからかもしれません。
ギターとバイオリン（？）の音色と浜田さんの声が、とてもやさしく癒してくれます。

浜田さんのCDには、歌詞カードに日本語の歌詞だけでなく英語訳も載っています。歌われているのは日本語だけですが。英語の勉強するようになってからは、英語の歌詞を読むのも楽しみになっています。
ちなみに「君と歩いた道」の英語のタイトルは、you are the one

　もし　15才のあの夏に戻って　そこからもう一度やり直せても
　この人生を選ぶだろう
　君と歩いた道をもう一度歩くだろう
　　　「君と歩いた道」より

そんなふうに思える相手と一緒に歩ける人生は幸せですね。

Keinan Iwamura's seminar / 圭南先生のセミナー

It was sunny.

I attended a seminar how to improve English last week.
The lecturer was Keinan Iwamura.
I was very happy to see him because I have listened to his radio program for 2 years.
After the seminar he had a book signing.
I bought his book and he wrote me encouraging words and his autograph on the book .
I made up mind to keep my efforts to study English.

先日NHKラジオ英会話レッツスピークの岩村圭南先生のセミナーを受けました。
圭南先生はラジオでは落ち着いた物静かなイメージを持っていたのですが、実際にお会いした先生は、もっと早口で、英語への情熱を熱く語られていました。
ラジオでもおなじみの音読・シャドウイング・オーバーラッピングなど、さまざまな練習方法について説明を受け、練習しました。特に効果があると強調されていた音読・オーバーラッピング・ディクテーションは毎日続けたいと思います。

Ukulele / ウクレレ

It was cloudy.

I like to play the Ukulele these days.
It is small, light and cute.
And it has sweet, lovely sound.
My husband taught me some codes.
He doesn't play ukulele, but he plays the guitar and knows some codes.
I tried to play "Hey Jude" with Ukulele.
I couldn't play it very well, but it was fun.
I feel comforted and relaxed when I'm playing the Ukulele.

最近ウクレレにちょっとはまってます。
弾き語りがしたいので、少しずつコードを覚えてます。
夫に教わりながら、ビートルズのヘイ・ジュードを弾いてみました。
ウクレレの音って、癒される感じで好きです。

こんなCDがあるんですね。
聴いてみたいな～。

wedding anniversary / 結婚記念日

It was rainy all through the day.

It was our wedding anniversary.
We were supposed to eat out and enjoy Italian food for lunch today.
But my husband had a terrible hangover and he slept until three in the afternoon. After all, we couldn't go out.
I can't believe it! How much I was looking forward to it. He drunk too much at the party last night.

After he got up at three, I made onigiri and miso soup to meet his request.
Then we ate them. The miso soup was very good.
It's delicious when I eat with someone.
And it's not fun to eat alone.
I have been with him for 17 years.

It's depressing.
I have to go to the hospital to have my large intestine checked up tomorrow.

せっかくの結婚記念日だったのに、夫が二日酔いで午後３時まで寝ていたので、予定していたイタリアン・ランチがキャンセル。楽しみにしていたのになぁ。
結局、味噌汁とおにぎりを作って食べた。まぁそれはそれで楽しいし、味噌汁はおいしかったけど。誰かと一緒に食べるご飯はおいしい。17年間一緒にご飯食べてきたんだなぁ…と、なぜか当たり前の日常に感動してしまったのでした。
明日は病院で検査。憂うつ～。

I haven't studied English for 3 days.
I'm depressed.
I'm upset.
Despite my opposition, my husband bought a motorcycle.
I was so angry about that.
We can't afford to get such a thing.
We argued about it these days.
When he told me that he would get a motorcycle, I opposed and asked him, "Please don't buy a motorcycle. We can't afford it. What if you say I'm going to divorce with you as soon as you buy a motorcycle?"
I knew I was saying a stupid thing.
I should not say that thing.
He got mad at me and said, "I will get a motorcycle, if you divorce with me."

久々の英語日記のネタが夫婦喧嘩というのも情けないですが(^^;)

「夫婦喧嘩は犬も食わない」っていう諺は英語にはないのでしょうか？
次の例文が意味的には近いのかな？

Many quarrel between busband and wife has arisen over a trifle.

些細なことが原因で起こる夫婦喧嘩が多い [ジーニアス英和大辞典]

明日から数日間旅に出る予定。（と言っても実家だけど）
リフレッシュしてきます。

My second son was offer to a baseball team and he took a part the practice for the first time.
I didn't think he was good at sports and like excercise.
But as he backed home after the baseball practice, he said, "I want to play baseball."
"Was that fun?" I asked. "Yes!" he said with smile.
I was happy to look at his happily face.

cherry blossom viewing / 花見

It was sunny and windy today.

My husband and I drove to the riverside to see the cherry blossoms.
The locals call the place "Sakuradote", sakura means cherry and dote means embankment.
There were a lot of cherry trees on both sides of street.
They were just like a tunnel of cherry trees.
The cherry blossoms were falling when the wind blew.
It looked like snow falling. It was so beautiful!

It was open school day in my son's school.
After observing class, there was a perent's meeting.
We talked about who became a PTA officer.
There was not the person who wanted to become an officer.
I ran for an officer.

PTAの役員決めが難航。
6年生になると、役員をやったことがある人がクラスの大半なわけだから。
みんなシーンとしてうつむいてる。
私は3年生の時にやったので最初はやるつもりはなかったが、なかなか決まらないので、つい手を挙げてしまった。卒業対策委員という係になった。
まぁ小学校最後の年だし、いい思い出になるだろう。

PTA役員って、英語で何て言うんだろう？とりあえず、PTA officerにしてみたけど。

Moderate exercise is good for your health.
*I know I should exercise, but somehow it's a bother and I don't do it.
After I took a medical checkup last summer, I made up my mind to do some exercise.

I'm going to get up 30 minutes earlier in the morning and walk for exercise.
I heard that a regular habit of walking increase your *metabolism and help you lose weight.
I hope walking will help me lose weight and maintain good health

I'm depressed / ちょっと落ち込みモード

It was cloudy.

I'm depressed.
I'm busy and I have a lot of things to do.
I have assignments I have to send up by the first week of April.
I'm tired of doing the dishes, doing the laundry, and so on.

今週は、Pass単と週刊STは細々と続けていましたが、速読…が全然できませんでした。というのも、４月上旬までに出さなければならない課題があって、そちらの方で精一杯だからです。

確定申告もギリギリだったし、どうも私は期限が迫らないと本気にならないタイプみたいです。はぁ…
とりあえず、残りの課題３つのうち、１つはなんとか今夜中に終わりそうです。

現在精神的に不安定で落ち込みやすい上に、やることがたくさんで余裕がありません。でも、自分がやると決めたことなので、がんばります。

My husband rarely eats yogurt.
As he was eating yogurt this morning, I asked him why.
He told about a TV program he watched before. It featured a way of slimming by eating yogurt. So he learned yogurt is good for diet and how to make special yogurt.
Then he made yogurt and recommended us to eat it.
I wanted to lose my weight and I needed to go on a diet. So I made up my mind to eat two cups of yogurt every day.
I think if I can slim down by eating yogurt, it is simple, easy and cheap way of slimming.

ヨーグルトが体にいいのは前から知っていましたが、先日テレビのスパスパ人間学で「やせるヨーグルト」というのをやっていたそうです。私は見ていなかったのですが、見ていた夫が珍しく自分でヨーグルトを買ってきて、スキムミルクを混ぜたスペシャルヨーグルトを作って息子にも食べるように勧めていました。

ヨーグルトを毎日400グラム食べるというのは、家族５人分だと出費が大変そうですが、「俺が酒とタバコをやめればいいんだよなぁ」と夫。うんうん、グッドアイディア！でもどうせ口だけだとわかっているけど。「おやつをスナック菓子やチョコレートの代わりにヨーグルトにしよう」というのは、ぜひ実行して欲しいものです。

久々にヨーグルトメーカーを棚の奥から引っ張りだしてきて作ってみました。ただいまヨーグルト発酵中です。４時間以上かかるみたいで…
でも毎日たくさん食べるなら、市販ヨーグルトの半分のコストで作れるのは、うれしいですよね。面倒くさいかなと思ったけど、意外と簡単でした。ちゃんとできるといいんですが…。

ヨーグルト作りは大成功！とっても簡単！ズボラで面倒くさがりやの私でもできました。まぁ、面倒くさいといえば、容器を熱湯消毒することくらいでしょうか。赤ちゃんのミルクを作ったことのある方ならできると思いますが。牛乳に少量のヨーグルトを加えてよくかき混ぜたら、あとはヨーグルト・メーカーにおまかせで待つだけです。冷たい牛乳より暖かい牛乳の方が早くできるようなので、電子レンジでチンしてから使用しました。

It snowed all morning.

Yes! 　I passed the second grade STEP test!

英検２級の合格通知が届きました。
思わず、やった！と叫んでしまいました。
励ましてくださったみなさん、ありがとうございました。

娘が高熱を出してしまい、ゆっくり書いている時間がないので、今日はこれで…
落ち着いたら、これからの学習プランをじっくり考えようと思います。

＜追記＞　英検２級で使用した教材

・主に一次試験対策。3回くらいやりました。
『1か月で英検2級に受かる』

・二次試験対策は、これ1冊でOK。
『DAILY10日間英検2級 二次試験対策予想問題』

・英検用ではないけど、語彙を身につけながら、リスニングの練習にもなりました。

Doll Festival/ ひな祭り

It was sunny.

It was Hinamatsuri, or Doll Festival today.
I displayed Hina dolls with my daughter.
The dolls were small and pretty.
I bought them when I traveled somewhere some years age.
I loved them so much at first sight.
The dolls is smiling happily.
I feel good looking at them.

"They are yours." I said to my daughter.
"They are mine!" she said happily.

In the evening I made special dishes for Hinamatsuri.
Chirashizushi, osuimono, shirozake, chicken nuggets and salad.
After dinner we ate hinaarare.
I'm so happy she is growing up healthy.

When I was a little girl, I gathered all my dolls in my house, and displayed them on the box.
I thought of them as Hina dolls.
I liked eating hinaarare on Hinamatsuri.

My son's temperature has gone down. I'm so relieved.
I felt sick in the morning, but I recoverd in the afternoon and worked.
I think I might have been lack of sleep.
I'm going to bed early tonight.

ひな人形を飾りました。
うちのひな人形は、おだいり様とおひな様だけで、どこかに旅行に行ったとき私が買ってきたもの。にっこり微笑んでいる顔がいいでしょ？

子どもの頃、ひな祭りに私は家中にある人形を出してきて、箱の上（ひな壇のつもり）に飾っていました。ひなあられを食べるのがとても楽しみでした。

息子の熱が下がり、一安心。私も午前中は体調が悪かったけど、午後は回復、仕事をしました。昨日から調子が悪かったのは、息子の看病で寝不足だったせいではないかと。
今日も少ししか英語の勉強をしていないのだけど、また寝不足になるといけないので、早めに寝ます。

He was absent from school today.
I'm worrying about him because his fever has gone up to 40 degrees.

It was sunny and warm today.

I got up at seven in the morning.
While my children was sleeping, I went to Mc Donalds to eat breakfast and study English.
I cleaned up my house and did laundly in the morning.
After lunch I took my daughter to the park and played with her.
On the way home I dropped at a supermarket and shopping for dinner.
I bought a シャボン玉セット for my daughter.
In the evening I cooked dinner, watching my children were blowing soap bubbles.

I studied, played with my children, and cleaned up my house today.
It was an almost perfect day.

勉強も家事もそれなりに予定通りこなして、子どもとも外で遊んだ。
こんなふうにうまくいく日ばかりじゃないんだけど、予定通りきまると気持ちいい！
ほぼ完璧な日曜日だった。

nursery schools

It was sunny today.

I have just received a letter from the child welfare section of the city hall.
I remember that I filed an application to nursary schools for my daughter a while ago.
The letter was the answer, and it said she was accepted !
I was happy to know that. I was waiting for a long time.

So my daughter will go to a nursery school from April.
It is a new nursery school, but I don't worry about it very much.
I'm sure that nursery school teachers will do their best.
I hope she will make good friends and have nice memories.

娘が1歳７ヶ月のとき、今まで夫が事務所として借りていたマンションに引越しをして、自宅で仕事ができるようになったので、家で子どもを見ながら仕事するようになりました。２歳になって保育所に申し込んだけれど、在宅で仕事をしていると優先順位が低くなるらしく、なかなか入れませんでした。

３歳になったので４月から幼稚園も考えたのですが、幼稚園はお金がかかりすぎて入れられません。娘がいると私も仕事が思うようにできないし、娘も私が仕事中はかまってもらえないしで、お互いにストレスがたまってきていました。入所が決まって本当にほっとしています。

上の２人の子ども達も保育所に通っていたので、保育所に関してはあまり不安はありません。４月に新しく開園するところですが、きっと保育士さんたちも一生懸命やってくれるでしょう。私も保育のプロにお任せして安心して仕事ができるし、娘もお友達や先生と遊びながらいろいろな経験をして成長できるでしょう。

それから、仕事の効率が上がれば、英語学習の時間ももっと取れるようになるかもしれないと期待しています。今の生活は、仕事をしている途中でも娘に気を配らなければならないですし、娘の相手をしているうちに日中仕事が進まなくて、夜もやることになったり…。自己管理・時間管理が難しいです。

When I got up in the morning, it was very cold.
I got out of bed and pull open the curtains to look outside. There was snow all around.
I felt like eating something hot, so I went out to eat ramen for lunch with my husband and daughter.
I love ramen, especially in cold days, because it makes my body warm.
I go to the ramen shop near my house about once a week.
The ramen shop owner always gave us free special boiled eggs with ramen. The egg tastes good.
That's why I want to go to the shop again.

寒い日は何と言っても、ラーメン！
家で食べるのもいいのですが、ちょっと贅沢して近所のラーメン屋に食べに行きました。最近週に1度の割合で通っています。家族５人で行くと出費がすごいことになるので、息子たちが学校に行っているお昼に、夫と娘と３人で行きます。（ごめん、息子たち）
娘には私のを分けてあげるので、２人分しか注文しないのですが、いつもお店の人がおまけに味付け卵を３個サービスしてくれます。これがうまい！というわけで、また食べに行きたいなぁと思うのでした。

I felt dizzy in this morning, but I feel better now.
I remember when I took the medical check up, the doctor told me that I was seriously anemic and almost osteoporosis. And he advised me to get enough nutrition from food and do moderate exercise.

Yesterday my English teacher said he was on a diet and trying to decrease his cigarettes and do exercise every day.
I thought they were good ways to keep good health.

Good heath is one of the most important thing in life.
I'm thinking of doing something for my health.
What is need for good health?
Good sleep, moderate excise, balanced diet and positive thinking.

I got three pedometers last month, one was mine and the othes were my sons.
We walk and count our steps every day, but I don't have much time to walk because I'm busy.

It was sunny and warm today.

I have just come home .
I go to the community center to learn English every Wednesday evening.
Today two women came to our class to observe.　I hope they will join us.
We enjoyed talking about favorite movie, book, TV program, and so on.
It's fun to talk about favorite things.
We learned a lot of things.

I can't wait next week, because we decided to have a party after the class.
I really look forward to it.

今日はコミュニティセンターでの英会話のレッスン。
Side by Side 1のP91-95　好きな映画や本やテレビ番組などについて話した。
好きなことについて話すのは楽しい。
来週は飲み会。楽しみだ。

いつも思うことだけど、テキストを見ながらなら言えるけど、見ないで話すのは難しい。
実際に会話になったら、なかなか言えないんだろうなぁ。
これから家事と仕事を片付けたら、復習しよう。

明日は英検２級二次試験

いよいよです。
英語を話すのは本当に苦手なので緊張します。

英協のサイトを見たら、昨年の２級の二次試験の合格率が75%以上。つまり10人に7人は受かっているんですよね。ということは、そんなに難しくないはず…。一次試験は10人に２人か３人しか受からないのだから、それに受かったということは、もっと自信を持っていいはず。落ち着いて受ければ大丈夫！と自分に暗示をかけてみたりして。
もし落ちたとしても一次免除で次回受けられるのだから、あまり深刻に考えずに、楽しんできます。

それに、試験とはいえ１人で外出できる機会はとっても貴重。試験が終わったら、久々に大型書店に寄って、気になる本をチェックしてこようっと。楽しみ♪

Tomorrow I have the second grade STEP test.
So I packed my belongings into my bag.
An admission ticket to the examination, a watch, a map, some pencils of HB and slippers.
According to the weather forecast, tomorrow will be cloudy or sunny and warmer than today.

It was snowy today.
There was an earthquake early this morning in Kanto area.
When I was sound asleep, all of a sudden I waked at a rattling sound. I realized it was an earthquake and jumped up out of bed. I was scared.
As soon as the earthquake stopped, I turned on the radio.
According to the radio, the epicenter of the earthquake was south Ibaraki where my parents live in.
I called my parents and I was relieved to know that they were all right.

早朝の地震、びっくりしました！
うちは埼玉ですが、震源地が実家のある茨城県南部と聞いたので、心配になり両親に電話。無事と聞いてほっとしました。

震源地は、epicenterでいいのかな？

Monday, February 14 / Happy Valentine's Day

Today was Valentine's Day.
In Japan many woman present chocolate to men on Valentine's Day.
I helped my daughter write a Valentine's card and chose bear-shaped chocolate to her father.
I gave a dozen Chocolate Frogs to my sons. Do you know Chocolate Flogs? They are funny chocolates in the story of Harry Potter. They have cards inside pack of Chocolate Frogs, Famous Witches and Wizards cards. And surprisingly they can move.
Of course they were not genuine Chocolate Frogs that I bought, but they looked like real ones except for Chocolate Frogs didn't move.
Anyway, my sons liked them.

今日はバレンタイン・デー。日本では女性が男性にチョコレートをあげる日になっていますが、外国では男女関係なくカードや贈り物をして祝うそうですね。
我が家では娘がパパにカードとチョコレートをあげました。本当は私がほとんど用意したのだけど、娘があげた方がパパは喜ぶよね。結局一緒に食べるのだけど（笑）

息子たちには、カエルチョコをあげました。カエルチョコって、知ってます？ハリーポッターに出てくるカエルの形をしたチョコレートで、なんと本当に動いたりする。私があげたものは、もちろん物語りの中のカエルチョコみたいに動きませんが、ちゃんと有名な魔女と魔法使いのカードもついていました。

まぁ、本来のバレンタイン・デーとは違うのですが、我が家ではみんなチョコレートが大好きなので、こんなふうにチョコを楽しむ日になっています。
でも、ちゃんと渡す時に、大好きの気持ちは伝えていますよ。

It was sunny and windy.
Today was Setsubun, the turning of the seasons.
My daughter and I took part in the bean-scattering ceremony at the kindergarten.
Some kindergarten teachers disguised of demons. Some children cried from fear and my daughter too.

In the evening I intended to make "marukaburisushi", or special sushi rolls for celebrating Setsubun.
But my son said "I want to eat do-it-yourself sushi rolls."
It was a good idea. I thought it would be fun.
So I took his idea after all.
We had a great time making do-it yourself sushi rolls and eating together.

For the past several days my PC condition was bad, and it couldn't be connected to the Internet.
I tried to make that cause clear, but I could'nt.
At last, I gave up making the cause clear, and installed Windows again.
A PC is useful, but it is difficult when a trouble happens.

PCは便利だけど、トラブルが起こると大変！

Sunday, January 29 / birthday party

It was sunny.

Today was my eldest son's 11th birthday.
He invited some friends to his birthday party.
So I had been busy to prepare for the party, cooking and cleaning my house since yesterday.
I was tired, but happy they enjoyed it.

I still remember the time he was born clealy.
It was snowy mornig.
He was the first, long-for child for me.
I had wanted to have a child for 6 years since I had married.
He is 11 years old now.
How fast time flies!
Raising children requires lots of patience.
It's tough, but fun.
I learn a lot of things from children.

Thursday, January 27 / my favorite song

It was sunny today.

My husband was playing the guitar and singing a little ago.
So I asked him to sing my favorite songs, "Last Show".
Whenever I listen to the song, I always remember the winter night when my boyfriend and I drove to the sea. We parked the car at the seaside, and looked up at the starry sky through the sunroof, talking about dream.
After a few years, he realized his dream. He is still chasing his dream, and struggling to bridge the gap between dream and reality. As for me, I gave up my dream once. But now I have new dreams.

Friday, January 21 / I want to go to Canada.

I belong to an international friendship association and I learn English there.
My English teacher told me that there is a plan to visit Canada in October of this year.
I wish I could be there with them but I don't have enough money to go.

Monday, January 10 / Coming-of-Age Day

It was sunny today.
When I saw some girls who wearing kimono, I realized it was Coming-of-Age Day.
In Japan, the second Monday of January is Coming-of-Age Day, which is called "seijin no hi" in Japanese.
We celeblate those who become 20 years old, and encourage them to become aware of responsibility as adults and make a resolution to survive. However, I was sad to hear the news that someone attending Coming-of-Age Day ceremony had spoiled the ceremony by interference.
They looked like acting stupidly on purpose. Did they want to be show-offs? How childish!
I wonder why they didn't mind to inconvenience others.

As every year on this day, I made nanakusagayu today.
Nanakusagayu is rice porridge with seven grasses of spring.
We eat it on January 7 as a way of wishing for good health throughout the year.
My children like nanakusagayu, so I made a lot and ate too much.
I fogot I'm on a diet!

Today was my husband's birthday, but I had fogotten. I realized in the evening.
I was really sorry about that. Then I bought a birthday present and a cake for him, but he didn't accept them.
He is still angry and ignore me. What shoud I do?

Monday, January 3

It was cloudy today. There was still remaining snow which had fallen on New Year's Eve.
My husband gave some tops and a kite to my children.
When they went to the park to fly a kite and play with tops, I did the laundry and the house cleaning.
We were so tired of eating osechi or traditional New Year dishes that we ate tonkatsu for lunch.
I wonder what is tonkatsu in English?
The dictionary says tonkatsu is fried pork cutlet in English.

I can't make my new Year resolution yet.

夫と子ども達が、たこあげとこま回しで遊んでいる間に洗濯や掃除。
おせちに飽きたのでお昼はトンカツ。
新年の抱負がまだ決まらない。

It was sunny today.
I went to the library and borrowed some books and CDs.
I'm going to read many books during the year-end and New Year holidays.
These days the library has Manga and foreign language books, such as English, Korean, French and Spanish.
I love library and I can never get tired of spending many hours in the library .

うちの近所の図書館の話なので、他のところは知りませんが、最近の図書館はCDや漫画もあるし、充実してますよね。
英字新聞や洋書もあるし、洋書の中には朗読CD付きのものもあって、英語学習者は利用しない手はないですよね。
洋書といっても絵本がほとんで、あとは児童書が少しあるくらいですが。英語学習者用のGR（Graded Readers）があれば最高なんですけどね。

残念ながら図書館では洋書のリクエストができないので、読みたい洋書がない時は、図書館で入れてくれるのを祈って待つしかありません。ハリー･ポッターのように人気のある本なら入れてくれる可能性高いんですけど。もっとも、ハリポタは2週間じゃとても読みきれないので買いましたが。
洋書を利用する人が増えれば、たくさん入れてくれるかな？と思い、せっせと借りています。

It is sunny today.
When my children found some presents from Santa Claus this morning, my son said, "There is Mom's present!"
Santa Claus had come to my house and given presents to my children and me!
Of course, I know Santa is my husband, but I was surprised to get a Christmas present from him for the first time since we married 17 years ago.
I was happy and sorry I quarrelled with him last night.

It was sunny, warm and dry today.
I don't like the the dryness of the air in winter because it makes my skin itch!
Sometimes I can't have a good sleep for the itchy skin.
To protect my skin from dryness, I put moisturizer on my skin after taking a bath, but the moisturizing action is brief.
I wonder how I can moisturize my skin.

I was absent from today's English class because I had to take care of my children.
My hasband usually take care of children on Wednesday evening, but today he went for a drink with his friend.

It was sunny and windy today.
Christmas is almost around the corner.
I went to the Christmas party with my daughter.
We enjoyed singing, dancing and so on. It was fun.

It was sunny and warm today.
I went to the Shimajiro's Christmas concert for children with my daughter.
Many children and parents enjoyed singing and dancing at the concert.
At the concert hall there are many goods, such as videos, DVDs, CDs, books and other character goods.
I got a picture book of Shimajiro with a CD for my daughter, the book was available only at the concert hall.
I'm apt to buy something on impulse whenever I go to a concert.

「しまじろう」といっても小さなお子さんをお持ちでなければ知らないと思いますが、TVアニメにも登場するキャラクターです。娘と一緒に初めてそのしまじろうのコンサートに行って来ました。

幼児向けですが、歌や踊りはプロのお姉さんなので、さすがに見事で大人も楽しめました。ミュージカル風に歌や踊りを織り交ぜながらストーリーが展開していくのですが、うちの子は3歳4ヶ月でまだストーリーがよくわからなかったみたい。でも歌や踊りは喜んでいました。また機会があったら行きたいと思います。

ところでコンサート会場に行くと必ず何か一つは予定外の物を買ってしまいます。せっかく来たんだから…なんて思ってしまって。特に「限定品」なんて言われたら弱いです。今日も「コンサート会場限定販売のCD付き絵本」を買ってしまいました。

It was cloudy today.
At Last I could go to the doctor and got some medicines.
I wanted to go to the doctor earlier, but I was busy.
I have lots of things to do. I should get rid of my cold soon.
I put up Christmas decorations with my daughter.
As our house is so small, we put a very little Christmas tree. It's only 20 cm tall.
My daughter got so excited when I turned on lights on a Christmas decorations.

あまりにしつこい風邪のため、観念して医者に行きました。
今頃？と思われるかもしれませんが、子どものことや何やらで忙しくて行けなかったのです。
40度近く熱が出た時は、さすがに医者に行きたかったのですが、歩くことさえままならず、ひたすら寝ているしかありませんでした。

ようやくクリスマスの飾りつけをしました。
今年も残りわずかですね。仕事が山積みです。早く風邪を治さなくちゃ。

It was sunny today.
I almost recoverd from my cold once, but I caught another cold.
The day before yesterday, I had a temperature of nearly forty degrees Celsius and then I was in bed for two days.
My temperature has come down to nomal from this morning.

なかなか風邪が治りません。
一度治りかけて安心していたら、いきなり40度近くの熱！
インフルエンザかと思いました…
幸い2日ほど寝ていたら熱が下がりました。
何日かぶりの英語日記ですが、現在完了を使った方がいいのかなぁと思いつつ、過去形で書いてしまいましたが、自信がありません。文法もやらなきゃですね。

体調を整えながら、英語もぼちぼちやっていきます。

It was cloudy in the daytime and rainy in the evening today.
Last night my daughter suddenly began to cry and said that she had a pain in her left ear.
I thougt she might have an otitis media and gave her a painkiller.
Today I took her to see an ear, nose and throat doctor.
The doctor said she didn't have an otitis media but a cold, so the runny and stuffy noses might have caused the pain in her ear.

昨夜、３歳の娘が急に耳が痛いと泣き出しました。
中耳炎かもしれないと思い、とりあえず鎮痛剤を飲ませ、翌日医者に見せました。先生の話だと鼓膜がへこんでいるので中耳炎ではないそうです。中耳炎では、鼓膜がふくらむのだとか。風邪で鼻水の影響で鼓膜がへこみ、そのために耳が痛かったのではないかと言われました。よくわからないけど、とりあえず痛みはおさまり、よかったです。

この頃、私も子ども達も病気ばかりで、日記もそういう内容が続いています。
病気の症状とか病名などは、知らない単語が多くて辞書で調べることが多いです。

ちなみに耳鼻咽喉科は、辞書によると、「an ear, nose and throat doctor」なんですね。日本語より簡単？　「an otorhinolaryngologist」という言い方もあるみたいですが…む、難しい～。

中耳炎を辞書で調べていたら、上記のようにいろいろな単語が見つかったのですが、「an inflammation of the middle ear」が私には一番覚えやすそうです。
inflammationは、炎症という意味で、
「炎症を起こす」は、cause inflammation　患部が主語になります。
炎症を起こしているところを入れ替えれば、いろいろ応用できそうです。

「痛い」は、pain, sore, hurt（過去形、過去分詞も同じ）などを、体の部分を組み合わせると、どこが痛いか言えますね。
　I have a headache.　（頭が痛い）
　I have a pain in my chest.　（胸が痛い）
　My throat is sore. / I have a sore throat.　（喉が痛い）
　My right eye hurts.　（右目が痛い）

他にもいろいろありそうですが、今日はこの辺で･･･

My family had a birthday party for him in the evening.
I made a birthday cake with 9 candles on top.
I'm very happy he is growing up in good health.
He is the tallest in his class and kind to his sister.

風邪をひいてblogの更新をお休みしてしまいました。
若い頃は39度くらいの熱で仕事に行ったりしたのですが、この頃は38度でダウンしてしまいます。
体力なくなったなぁ。
These days I feel my physical strength declining.

という状態です。咳が止まりません。

でも、今日は年に一度の次男の誕生日。
我家では家族の誕生日には必ずケーキを作ってお祝いします。
子ども達には、短い子ども時代に
「お父さんとお母さんは自分が生れたことを喜んでくれた」という思い出を作ってあげたいから。
お腹にいたときは切迫流産で無事に生れるかと心配させた次男も、今はクラスで一番のノッポさんになりました。妹には優しいお兄さんです。

【風邪に関する表現】

★風邪をひく：　catch cold // get a cold
　辞書（ジーニアス英和大辞典）によると、catchの場合、coldに普通「a」はつかないそうです。ただし、coldの前に形容詞がつく場合は、「a」がつく。
例　I caught a bad cold.
でも形容詞なしでも「a」がついているのも見かけるので、あまりこだわらないくてもいいのかな？？

★風邪をひいている：　have a cold

★風邪気味：　a slight cold

★ひどい風邪：　a bad cold

★目まいがする：　feel dizzy

★気分が悪い：　feel sick

★喉が痛い：　have a sore throat

★熱がある、熱が高い：　have a temperature

I'm tired of receiving a lot of unwanted junk mails, such as unsolicited ad mails and mails with computer virus.
The mail addresses of unwanted mails quite often change, so I can't block the mails.
They are real nuisance!
How can I block them?

迷惑メール、この頃本当に多いです。
ウィルス添付メールもありますが、ウィルス対策ソフトを入れているし、私のところは数が少ないのでそれほど気になりません。何と言っても頭にくるのが、毎日何十通も送られてくる未承諾広告メールです。
やたらメールアドレスは教えないようにしているのですが・・・
メールアドレスを頻繁に変えて送ってくるので、なかなか防ぎようがありません。プロバイダの迷惑メールを振り分けツールを使ってみたりしましたが、必要なメールまで迷惑メールフォルダに入れられたりして、結局あまり役に立ちませんでした。

迷惑メールの英語「unsolicited mail」の「unsolicited」は、「頼んでいないのに与えられた［送りつけられた］、求められていない、嘆願されていない、嘆願されない、おせっかいの、余計な」という意味です。（by 英辞郎）

I saw my second son was scratching his back after he came home from school.
His back broke out in a rash.
I took him to see a docter immediately.
The doctor said my son come out in a nettle rash and give my son an ingection and some medicine.
A rash has spread to other areas of his body, such as his face, neck, belly, arms and legs.
He lookes itchy so much!

次男が学校から帰った後、じんましんが出ました。
給食のソーセージが原因ではないかと皮膚科の先生に言われましたが、実際のところはよくわかりません。とりあえず、しばらくソーセージ禁止です。
次男はじんましんにかかったのは初めてですが、疲れていたりすると、いつもは平気な食べ物でもじんましんが出ることがあるそうです。私も昨年豚肉で発疹が出ましたが、じんましんのかゆみは本当につらいですよね。

じんましんの英語「a nettle rash」のrashは「発疹」、nettleには、「いらいらさせるもの」という意味があるそうです。確かに、いらいらしますよね。

It was sunny and warm today.
When I went to the community center on business, I saw a young woman at the front desk.
She seemed to have trouble with something. She was not Japanese.
No one at the front desk could speak English, so I tried to interpret for them.
While talking with the woman, I found she couldn't speak English well. She was Spanish.
She said she came to Japan with his hasband about a week ago and she couldn't speak Japanese. So she wanted to learn to Japanese and English and she came to the community center to apply for the English and Japanese course.

コミュニティセンターで困っている外国人女性を見かけたので、英語で声をかけたらスペイン人でした。彼女は日本語はわからないし、私もスペイン語を知らないので、お互い片言の英語で話をしました。英語と日本語の講座に申し込みたいと言うので、受付で担当の人に連絡をとってもらいました。

それにしても、日本に来たばかりで言葉も通じないなんて、心細いでしょうね。
外国人はみんな英語がペラペラなわけではなく、英語圏じゃない人が圧倒的多数なんですよね。

今まで私は、英語学習者の立場で英語ネィティブの先生と話すことが多かったので、常に会話の相手は英語がペラペラで私より上手でした。それにこっちは生徒であくまで練習なので間違えても困らないし、たいてい先生が私の言いたいことをわかってくれたので楽だったんですよね。

でも、実践の会話は、テキストのようにはいかないですね、当たり前ですけど。今回はお互い英語が母国語じゃない者どうしで苦労しながら英語で話して、やっと少しだけど理解し合えたという感じですが、嬉しかったです。

It was sunny and warm today.
I almost overslept this morning.
I sat up late reading last nigt, so I felt sleepy all day today.
After my sons left for school, I listened to the radio.
It was English learning program, "eigo listening nyumon", it means the introduction to English listening.
Recently I listen to the recorded sound of English while doing the laundry and the dishes almost every weekday.
I could hardly hear what the speakers were saying in English on the radio today.
It was too difficult for me to understand, but I never give up.
Ken Toyama Sensei, Jeff and Katie often say on the radio, "Kikeba kikuhodo!" I think it means that "The more you listen to the sound of English, the more you can understand it.
I love this word, "Keep listening, keep practicing, and keep on smiling!"

先週くらいからNHKラジオ「英語リスニング入門」を聞いているのですが、先週に比べると今週は難しいです。
う～ん聞き取れない！と挫けそうなとき、遠山顕先生、Jeff、Katieの３人がよく番組で言っている「聞けば聞くほど！」が頭の中で鳴り響きます。
先週は繰り返し聞くうちに少しずつ聞き取れるようになってたので、今週も頑張るぞ！

いつも番組の終わりに先生方が言っている言葉が好きです。特に最後のところが大好き。

It was sunny today.

These days I'm into Dragon Ball Z.
It is anime I enjoy watching on TV.
As a matter of fact, at first, I didn't like Dragon Ball because I didn't like its battle scene.　I thougt it's cruel.
However, my husband watches Dragon Ball every day, so I began to watch together and I was fascinated with the interesting story.

ドラゴンボールは、夫がCSの再放送を毎日見ていて、一緒に見ているうちにはまってしまいました。１日３回同じのをやってるんですが、時間があれば３回とも見ています。（笑）
正直言って、はじめはあまり好きではありませんでした。戦闘シーンが多くて死んだ人がドラゴンボールで簡単に生き返ったりするのは、子どもに見せるアニメとしてどうかなぁと思うときもありますが、それでもお話としてはおもしろくて、子どもが夢中になるのもわかります。

ドラゴンボールZの英語サイトを見ていたら、FUNimationという言葉が出てきました。何？と思って調べてみたら、米国のアニメーション配給会社の一つで、主に日本のアニメを英語で吹き替えて米国などでテレビ放映したりDVD発売などをしているそうです。英語版DVDも見てみたい気がするけど、戦闘シーンが多いので英語の勉強としてはどうでしょうね？見てないので何とも言えませんが…
ドラゴンボールZの英語サイトには、ストーリーやキャラクター紹介などがあり、アニメを見ている人は楽しめると思います。

アニメと言えば「とっとこハム太郎」の英語版ビデオは、子どもと一緒に楽しみながら英語を勉強したい人にオススメです。心温まるお話なので子どもに安心して見せられるし、日常生活で使えそうな表現がたくさん出てくるので英語の勉強にもなります。私はよく3歳の娘と一緒に見ています。

It was sunny today.
I went to the City Athletic Park with my second son, because the City Marathon was held there and my son took a part in the children's marathon .
We saw some of his friends at the park.
Unfortunately, I missed my son crossing the finish line while I was walking around because I got lost on my way to the marathon goal. What a pity!
By the way, I saw a man who was running in Spider-Man's costume.
Some children cheered for him and he run waving his hand to acknowledge the cheers of them .　What a funny man! He must be very hot in the costume.

市民マラソン大会で次男がちびっこの部に出場したので応援に行きました。

そういえばおもしろい人を見ました。スパイダーマンの格好をしたランナー。子供達の「スパイダーマン、頑張って！」という声援を受けて走ってましたよ。ああいう人ってどこの大会にもいるのかな。私は楽しませてもらいましたが、全身コスチュームに身を包んで走っているわけですから、すごく暑いでしょうねー。
お囃子があったり、楽しいパフォーマンスありで、お祭り気分で楽しかったです。私も何かスポーツがしたくなりました。マラソンは無理だけど…

英語日記 きっかけ＆英語日記の本

英語で日記を書き始めたきっかけ

ふだん見たこと聞いたこと考えたことを何気なく英語にできたらいいのにな～と思ったからです。
はじめはTOEICや英検の本などで英語を勉強していましたが、覚えた英語を使うことができません。いざネィティブと話す機会があっても自分の思っていることさえ言えないのです。それにもう年が年なので詰め込み式に暗記というのも無理があります。英語でも自分のことを表現できるようになりたいし、相手とのコミュニケーションもはかれるようになりたい。

この英語日記は英語初心者の私が綴っていますので正しい英語ではないかもしれません。でも私なりに日々考えていることや何気ない日常について書いていますので、自分の身近な書きたい英語ということになります。今はまだなかなか思うように表現できないですが、こつこつ続けて書くうちに少しずつでも英語で表現する力がついていけばいいなぁと思っています。

いろいろありますね。図書館で借りたりして何冊か読みましたが、購入したのはこれ。英語で日記が書きたくなる本です。

この本を読む前は英語日記を始めたものの何をどう書いていいかわからずにいました。冠詞、接続詞、日本独自の事柄についての書き方など、日記を書くときによく迷うことが書いてあるので、とりあえずざっとこれを読んだら、どんどん書いてみるといいと思います。読者モニターの日記を読むと、気軽に書いてみようかなぁと思えてきます。

実際は書いてみると疑問が次から次へとわいてきて、たぶんどんな本を読んでも読むだけではダメですよね。実際に書いてみて疑問がわいて調べる。でもそれは自分が表現したい興味のあることだから楽しいです。日記の場合は、これを書け！と言われて英作文するわけじゃないですから。英語で表現する楽しさを感じれば英語日記は続けられると思います。

私はこの英語日記を通して、最初は英語力をつけられたらいなと思っていましたが、今はそれだけでなく、英語日記をブログに書くことで多くの人と交流できたらいいなぁと思っています。

英語で日記を書いてみて痛感しているのが、日本語能力のなさです。実は日本語能力も英語力UPには重要ではないかと思っています。

でも、日記なのであまり難しく考えすぎても続かないし、いきなり上手な文を書こうとしても緊張して書けなくなってしまうので、とりあえず通じればOKということで、気軽に自分のことを書いていきます。

I went to the flea market at the community center with my children.
There were lots of things. I enjoyed looking for something interesting and talking with people.
I got two cups and a wooden toy.
I want to sell something at the frea market next time.

何気なくおもちゃ（下の写真と同じもの）を見ていたらお店の人に話しかけられ「いやぁ、大きくて持ち帰れないし～それにあんまりお金もないし～」と断ろうとしたら、「家まで持って行ってあげますよ。値引きしますから」と言われ、つい買ってしまった。でも、いざ家で箱を開けてみたら、ほとんど新品だし、３歳の娘だけでなく小学生のお兄ちゃんまで夢中になって遊んでいたので、よかったかな。

I had to go out early this morning because it was my turn of "hatafuri-toban".
We parents of our elementary school take turns at doing "hatafuri-toban".
Hatafuri-toban with a yellow flag in one hand stands at the intersection of school road and leads children to cross the road in safety.
I said, "Good morning," to children. Some reply and some didn't reply.

今朝は小学校の旗振り当番でした。雨が降っていて寒かったです～。
「旗振り当番」って英語で何て言えばいいんでしょう？
そのまま日本語でhatafuri-tobanとし、説明を加えました。
小学生の通学路の交差点に交替で父兄が立ち、黄色い旗を振りながら、児童が安全に渡れるように誘導するのです。
日本でも学校によって旗振り当番がないところもあるし、他の国にあるかどうか？

I went to the school to meet and talk with each of my son's teachers individually.
When I meet my children's teacher, I'm always nervous.
Now it's a relief that it's all over.

I took my daughter to the hospital to have her get a flu shot.
I was so tired that the hospital was crowded and we had to wait a long time.

I have heartburn, maybe from eating too much croquette for lunch.

I read a book about how to use a day planner to manage time well.
I was impressed with the book.
I want to make better use of my time, so from now on, I'm going to carry around my day planner with me.
When I dropped into the shop, I found a new day planner what I wanted.
I was happy to get it sooner than I expected.

risaさんのブログでも紹介されていた「ミリオネーゼの手帳術」を読みました。
まだ半分読んだところですが、この本に載っていることをやってみたくなりました。
スケジュール帳なんて、ビジネスに使うものだと思っていたけど、夢を実現するために自分のやりたいことをどんどん書き込んでいく使い方って、楽しそうです。

著者の佐々木かをりさんオススメの手帳も通販で買えますが、同じようなタイプの手帳を近所で見つけました。A6サイズ（ハガキより少し大きめ）で、30分単位で縦目盛りが入っています。一日のスケジュールが縦目盛りで区切られている手帳は、バーチカルタイプというそうですが、このタイプを使うのは始めてです。確かに横目盛りのより縦目盛りの方が使いやすそうです。

表紙の色は黒もありましたが、明るいキャメルブラウンを選びました。

早速いろいろ予定を書き入れました。子供と夫の予定から埋まっていき、次に私の予定を書いていきます。人と会うとか行事の予定だけじゃなくて、この時間に英語の勉強をするとか、あの講座に参加しようとか、自分のやりたいことを書くのが楽しいのです。
子供や夫のことで時間をとられて自分のやりたいことがなかなかできないと思っていたけど、こうして予定として自分のやりたいことを手帳に書いて行動していくことで、自分の思い通りに夢が実現しそうな気がしてきました。

It was cloudy today.
I placed my order through the Internet a few days ago, and the goods arrived. They were some winter clothes.
I bought a brown reversible jacket for me. At the same time, I boutht a jacket for my daughter. It's the same type of jacket as mine in a different color and size. I have wanted to wear the same clothes as my daughter from long before she was born.

チェックのジャケットはリバーシブルで裏返すと無地。私のは茶色で、娘のは色違いの赤。
自分の冬服を買ったのは何年ぶりかなぁ。
フリースのジャケットは暖かくて大満足です。

It was cloudy today.
I received a parcel sent from my mother.
It was full of a variety of foods, such as Welsh onions, persimmons, yuzu(a kind of citrus fruit), coffee, snacks, cakes, rice and azuki beans.
My children were overjoyed at snacks and cakes.
I thought yuzu would be good for a hot "yuzu-yu" or citron bath and azuki beans could be used for "sekihan" or red rice.

I called my mother to say thank you and ask her how to make red rice. I steamed festive red rice with azuki beans and brought it to my husband's mother. I was happy she liked it.

Since I still have some azuki beans, I'm going to make "oshiruko" or sweet azuki-bean soup with rice cake tomorrow.

citronは柚子と似ているようですが、違うような気が･･･？植物の名前って難しい。

これもよくわからなかったです。柚子湯は日本だけのもの？それとも中国が由来とか？

母から荷物が届きました。中には食べ物がたくさん！
田舎で父と二人暮しの母は、自分で作った野菜や頂き物のお菓子などを「二人では食べきれないから」と言って、時々送ってくれます。
何も特別な物はないけれど、私にとっては嬉しい贈り物です。
柚子をかごに入れてキッチンのテーブルに置いたら、いい香りが部屋にただよってます。柑橘系の香りって大好き！

わけぎ、柿、柚子、小豆など、身近だけれど英語で知らない単語が多かったので、いつもより辞書を引きました。

It was rainy day all the way through, but it didn't rain so hard.
It was light rain, so I made my daughter put on her raincoat and went out.
First I went to the post office to get some postcards.
Next I took my daughter to a play area in the shopping center and played with her in a while.
After that, I went to the book shop and bought a book with CD. The book was 'Pass-tan' for the Eiken, or the STEP Test.
I'm going to take the STEP Test in January. I have to study English hard.

In the evening I went to karate school to see my eldest son practicing karate.　He has traind karate since last year.
Four months ago he passed the first exam of karate and got an orenge belt.
These days he practices hard because he will take the exam two weeks later.
I hope he will pass the exam and get a blue belt.
My e-mail friend, who is British and lives in UK, trains karate. Her children train karate, too. She said, "Karate gives my children discipline and understanding." I agree with her.

長男の空手の稽古を見学に行きました。2週間後に昇級審査があるので頑張ってます。8級なので本当は白帯なのでしょうが、オレンジ帯です。子ども達のやる気を促すためか、級が上がると帯の色が変わります。

It was cloudy.
I made hamburg stakes for dinner.
When I started cooking, I realized there wasn't any bread crumb .
I thought what to do for a morment.
After all I used mashed potato insted of bread crumb.
The hamburg stakes were delicious, except they were a little hard and dry.

夕食にハンバーグを作りはじめたら、パン粉がないっ！
パン粉の代わりにつぶしたジャガイモを入れてみたら、おいしかったけど、ちょっと硬くてぼそぼそしてしまいました。

It was sunny and warm today.
I have attended my English conversation class at the community center every Wednesday since September.
The beginner's English course will be complete at the end of this month.
The people in the course wanted to continue to learn English, so we discussed what to do.
After all we came to the decision to set up a new English conversation club.
I'm happy to continue to learn English with them.

It was sunny and warm today.
In the morning I took a walk with my daughter.
On my way home we dropped into a flower shop and bought a potted Creeping Fig.

In the afternoon I baked rye bread with bread machine.
The bread didn't rise. Maybe I had put rye flour into the machine too much.
It was completely failure, nevertheless my kids ate every bit because they were hungry.
A good appetite is a good sauce.

プミラ(Ficus Pumila)は学名。英語でのCommon nameはCreeping Fig。
creeeping=はい回る（ツルがはい回るから？）で、figはイチジク？なぜにイチジク？？

英語では、bread machineとか、bread makerと言うみたいですね。
洋書でホームベーカリーを使ったパンの本でも探してみようかな。

It was sunny today. The sky was blue and clear.
There was a nice, gentle breeze blowing.
It was a beautiful day to go outside.
I went to the park with my family except Tetsu.

We all enjoyed cycling in the park.
The leaves already had turned red and yellow.
Kazu and Miyu played catch.
Then Miyu was into collecting acorns and Kazu played games on the cell phone.
I watched them and took photos.
My husband took a nap on the grass.

I saw a rare sight in the park.
A cherry tree in bloom!
It's unusual for this time of the year.
It was so warm like spring that the tree might have thought spring has come.

It's warm in the daytime, but it's getting colder day by day in the evening.
I felt winter is approaching.
I heard someone selling kerosen outside for the first time in this season.
I think it's about time to prepare the kerosen fan heater.

今日は、いつもより長めの日記。頑張ってみました。
「灯油販売の車が来て、そろそろ冬だなぁと感じた」という意味のことが書きたかったんだけど…難しい～。

つづりがメチャクチャあやふやです。特にLとR！bloomなんてbroomと書いちゃったり。できるだけ辞書を引いて確認するようにしています。

初めて煮豚を作ってみました。

It was sunny and warm day.
I cooked nibuta, a kind of boiled pork, for the first time.
It was easy to cook and really tasty.
My hasband and kids loved it.
I thought I would make it again.

煮豚を作っているときのタレのにおいって懐かしいです。
The smell of nibuta cooking reminds me of my father,
because he used to cook nibuta.

ところで私、今まで豚かたまり肉をタコ糸で縛ってタレで<下線>煮込んだものをチャーシューだと思っていたのですが、誰かが「それは<下線>チャーシューじゃなくて煮豚」と言っていました。チャーシューは焼いて作るのだそうです。ほんと？
煮豚と書いてチャーシューと読むと思ってたんですよ。
でもチャーシューって叉焼と書くみたい。

だから、今回作ったのは煮豚…ということになりますね。
見た目はチャーシューも煮豚もそんなに変わらないような…

My family loves chocolate.
So after the box was opened, it was empty in 5 minutes.
It was really good!

I got up earlier than usual this morning, because I had to prepare my son's lunch and pack it in a box. I used to make lunch box every morning, but I rarely make it these days. So it's been a while since I made a lunch box.

My eldest son went to an auto factory for a social studies field trip today.　That's why I made a box lunch.

When he got home, he said, "a car is assembled in 3 minuts. It's amazing!"
My husband, who used to work for an automaker, said, "It's not so fast. When I worked for an automaker, a car was assembled in 1 minute. It was before bursting of the economic bubble."

I made Ma-po Dou-fu, gyoza and chinzyao-rosu for dinner.
My family loves Chinese dishes.

ようするに麻婆豆腐と餃子とチンジャオロースを作ったのですが。
英語でなんていうのかな～と英辞郎で調べてみたら

★麻婆豆腐　Ma-po Dou-fu
こ、これは日本語？これで通じるんでしょうか？
以下のように説明してもいいかもしれません。

えー！焼き餃子って日本の食べ物？
私が作ったのは焼き餃子なので、日本料理なのかなぁ。日記ではgyozaとしておきました。

It was sunny and warm day.
Since it was Culture Day today, I thought I should do something cultural or visit somewhere clutural place.
However, I could't. I stayed at home and did housework.

文化の日なので、何か文化的なことをしようとか（って何なんだ？）、文化的な場所に行こうかと思ったけれど、結局家にいました。実は午前中ほとんど寝ていたので、午後は家事をしなければならなかっただけなのですが･･･

早起きして家事をささっと済ませれば午後は出かけられたかもしれないのに･･･
でも、睡眠不足だったので、体が睡眠を欲していたのよね。健康第一。

It was sunny and warm day.

今日も小学校の授業参観でした。昨日は長男のでしたが、今日は次男の。
せっかくいい天気だったのに、私が忙しかったため、娘は外で遊べず、授業参観中もぐずっていました。

授業参観は、体育（PE）で跳び箱だったのですが、跳び箱は英語でvaulting boxって言うんですね。知らなかった～。vaultを辞書で調べると、いろいろな意味があります。アーチ型の、金庫室、地下室、跳躍する、飛び越す…多すぎて覚えられない～。

It was sunny and warm day.
I wanted to take my daughter to the park, but I could'nt.
The reason is I had a lot of things to do.
I and my daughter went to the school to see my second son's class.
It was PE in the gym.
The students trained vaulting box.
After that, there was a meeting between homeroom teacher and parents.

ALTって何の略？

今日の日記です。長男（小5）の授業参観でした。

Monday, November 1
It was clouday today.
I went to the school and to see my eldest son's English class.
Today's teacher was an ALT who was an native Englsih speaker.
The eacher and students enjoyed games in Englsih.
After the class there was a meeting between homeroom teacher and parents.

英語の授業を見るのは初めてだったので、興味しんしん。
ちょうど今日はネィティブのALTが来る日。
ALTって、assistant language teacherの略なんですね。し、知らなかった！
ATMとかATLとか言っていたワタシ･･･
ちなみに銀行のATMは、automated teller machine（現金自動預け払い機）の略だそうです。

今日の授業のテーマは動物だったみたいで、黒板には動物の絵のポスターが貼られ、動物のカードでゲームをしていました。

１．英語で動物の名前を聞いて、カードを取るゲーム。
２．"long nose" "four legs"など、ヒントを聞いて、カードを取る。

１のゲームは5年生には簡単すぎ？
２だと少し考えさせられておもしろいと思いました。

息子の小学校ではALTが来るのは年に数回。英語に関してはあとは週1回15分間エイゴリアンのビデオを見るだけらしいです。やらないよりマシなのでしょうが、もう少しなんとかして欲しいというのが本音です。でも週休2日制で全体の授業時間も減っているので、難しいんでしょうね。

英語だけでなく、地元に住む外国人の方と交流したり、異文化に触れたり、日本と外国の関係について考えるような授業があるといいと思います。「国際理解＝英語習得」ではないと思います。比率で言えば、身近に住んでいる外国人はアジアの人が一番多いのだし、アジアについて理解するということも必要なのでは。といいつつ私もアジアについて、知識不足なので親がまず関心を持たないとダメですよね。

戦争や飢餓などの問題にも目を向けさせたいです。小学生には難しいかもしれないけど、高学年になればある程度は理解できるのでは？
子ども達と一緒に学んでいきたいという願いも含めて思いました。

雨振りで珍しく子ども達が3人とも家にいたので、みんなでパンを作りました。　

ところで、「動物の形のパンを作る」って、英語でなんて言うの？

The whole family stayed at home all day long.
I baked bread with my kids.
While they enjoyed making bread in the shape of animals,
I cooked stew.
The stew and bread was served for dinner.

It was sunny today.
I went to the library and borrowed a CD.
I'm listening to the CD. It's Journey's.
I used to listen to Journey's songs when I was a high school student.
"Open Arms" is still sounds good. "Separate Ways"is still fabulous!.
I love Steve Perry's powerful and soulful voice.

う～ん、特に音楽や映画や本などの感想を英語で書こうとすると、行き詰るのよね。こんな程度しか書けない自分が悲しい…
英語だけでなく日本語の文章も変なんだけど。

ところでジャーニーって今は活動してないですよね？
高校生の頃よく聞いたんですが…
図書館でCDを見つけたので、懐かしくて借りてきちゃいました。
Steve Perryのソロアルバムも探したんですけど、ありませんでした。
Oh Sherrieが久しぶりに聞きたいです。

当時は音楽だけ聞いていたので、今回初めて歌詞カードを見ました。
Open ArmsやSeparate Waysは、昔も好きだったけど、今聞いてもやはりいいな～と思いました。

小麦粉粘土ってflour clay?

雨だったので、家の中で娘と小麦粉粘土で遊んだんですけど、小麦粉粘土って英語で何ていうんでしょうね？一応調べてみたんですが、わかりませんでした。
flour clayって、そのまんま直訳でもOKなのかなぁ？

初めて乳がん検診を受けてきました。
幸い悪いところは見つからなくて、ほっとしました。
